Well, where to start. I guess I could talk about who I went with. As you know there was Sarah.
She was my roomie and constant companion for the trip and I don't think I would have made it
without her there to knock some soberness sense into me in the moments of signing Disney tunes.
The one I sang with was Tanya, she was a drunken mess, haha. We all were, it was all inclusive!
Tanya was so much fun! She was the first of us to get braids in her hair and I don't think she
slept at all.
The other five girls we went with were Erin, Jaimie, Gill, Kristin, and Craig.
Oh wait a minute, Craig was a guy...and the only one with a group of crazy girls. Hope he comes
home normal.
We also knew a few more people there before we even got on the plane. Andrea, Diana,
and Matt were also friends from school that came on the trip.
Some cool people we met were
Jay, Ken, Jeff, Kelly, Emma, Tara, Dwight, Kathy, Miranda, Mike, Mr.Brewer, Mr.Smyth, The Tongue, and so many others! I know
that list of names means nothing to you without pics, but hopefully it will help those of us
that went to remember. We all have a date to meet here in Edmonton soon.
Some of the things that we did were really amazing. On the Thursday, we went on an all day
cruise kind of thing where we got to go snorkeling and kayaking, then it took us to this amazing
beach! The ocean was so clean you could go out as far as you could and still see your feet. We
did bodysurfing and beach volleyball there.
On the other days we played beach volleyball as well,
there was a court right on the beach in front of our hotel. We always had a giant fan group of
Mexicans watching all these blonde girls play volleyball. Other things we did each day were
swimming in the Ocean and the pools, shopping (for you today amiga, almost free!), and taking
long walks down the beach to where there was a nice rocky place.
I went parasailing!
It was one of the craziest things I have ever done! I never thought I would find myself being
pulled up in the air behind a boat, but it was so fun! A lot slower than I thought. Some of us
even saw a giant sea-turtle!
Snorkeling was the best thing I have ever experienced, it was
just like it is in the movies and on postcards! I was scared I wouldn't see anything, but as
soon as I jumped off the boat, my head went under a little bit and this big fat fish was practically
close enough to kiss. At first is was freaky, and some of the girls didn't like it, but as it
went on I got more and more excited. I must have seen thousands of tropical fish, they were all
around! I also saw a bright blue angel fish about the size of a dinner plate, and some eels, and
other wierd sea creatures. While on the boat we came across a few giant whales! It was so neat
to see them jumping in the air, and it was so easy to pick out their sprays. All in all, it was
a great experience that I would recommend to anybody.
Now to talk about the night scene, all
I can say is that I felt like I was home in Edmonton, except that everyone is more tanned. The
music was American, the DJ's were Canadian, the drinks were the same, and so were the outfits.
It was a nice thing to see that Mexicans party the same way as we do, even if it wasn't quite
the culture shock I was wanting it to be. We went to Senior Frogs a bunch, a place called the Zoo was
neat because there were animals all around, painted on the walls, and big fake ones too! There was
also a giant zoo cage on the dance floor that you could dance in. Some of us also went to this place
called Christine's. Crazy light shows and open bar are normal in these places, but it costs like
20-30 bucks to get in! The craziest, coolest bar night of all was in a place called Collage.
We all went dressed in our bikini tops and shorts/skirts for what we were told was a 'foam' party.
If you have ever been to one you know what I am talking about with the wackiness. You get a bunch
of drinks at the open bar, and then you head to the dance floor. These giant fans sitting on the stage
are constantly blowing soap bubbles and foam. You get literally soaked with soap. It is the
weirdest feeling to look around and feel like you are in a bathtub, but really fun! Hopefully the
pics Sarah took that night with her water-proof camera turn out!
The food in Mexico for the most part was boring in our hotel. It was all inclusive, so it was a
buffet style mess of different foods. It was tasty enough for the most part, but I felt like I could
have gotten it all at home. Luckily there was a McDonalds nearby and a really good pasta place run
by a fellow Edmontonian to eat from occasionally. The best night of the whole trip was the night
a bunch of us all went out to eat together. We chose this place called the Fajita Grill, and it was
the neatest little restaurant! The whole place was just a jumble of big trees and tables, and
the lighting was in what looked like round bees nests hanging from the branches. They cooked (set
on fire) your fajita right in front of your table and it tasted soooo good! We also got tons of
Nachos with salsa, now that is what I call Mexican food!
Of course we kept in touch with what was going on with the Olympics, and we even had two of the
Olympic Men's Hockey team with us. Mr. Brewer, and Mr. Smyth, oh, wait, those guys just thought
that they were. (Really strange, but nice guys) They wore their jerseys everyday and forced
everyone to call them by their hockey names.
Shopping was cool, except that it wasn't very cheap. The people get right up in your face and
wouldn't leave you alone until you settled on a price, even if you didn't always want it. I got
a lot meaner by the end. Also, Peurto Vallarta is such a tourist town that everyone knows English
and is out to sell you something. It got pretty annoying, but hey it was an experience.
Last but not least, the weather was amazing! It was plus 30-35 degrees Celsius at least, the entire
time we were there! I put lots of sunscreen on at first because I didn't want to fry being so
white, but by the end my tan was adequate enough to use only SPF 15 on my face. None of our
people burned too terribly badly and we all seemed to come home about 300 shades darker than we left.
If you have made it all the way down here you should get a prize because that is a lot of ramble. I hope
you enjoyed my recap of the trip and if not, I really don't think I deserve nasty letters. Until next trip,
insanely talkative Sarah.
